These sardine and egg canapés are a Ukrainian staple and a great way to ride the tinned fish trend. They’re made with sustainably caught Wild Planet Foods sardines, hard boiled eggs, and tangy pickles, making them perfect for an appetizer or light lunch.

These sardine and egg canapés are a Ukrainian staple and a great way to ride the tinned fish trend. They’re made with sustainably caught Wild Planet Foods sardines, hard boiled eggs, and tangy pickles, making them perfect for an appetizer or light lunch.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 baguette, sliced

  • 1 (4.4oz) can Wild Planet Sardines in Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1/2 cup small pickles, sliced

  • 1 Tbsp mayonnaise

  • 2 hard boiled eggs
  • 1/2 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper

  • Chopped dill [optional]

Directions

  1. Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch slices. Set them aside.

  2. Peel the hard-boiled eggs and grate them on the large side of a box grater.

  3. Toss the grated egg with the mayo, salt, and pepper.

  4. Spread the egg mixture evenly onto each piece of bread.

  5. Top each slice with a Wild Planet Sardine, a small pickle piece, and an optional sprinkle of fresh dill. Enjoy!
